Job Summary

\n

The Radiation Therapist, supervised by a Radiation Oncologist, performs radiation therapy on patients. This is done as requested by a physician or licensed provider, following established protocols.

\n

Essential Functions of the Role

\n

    \n
  • Performs high-quality radiation therapy procedures, according to exam protocol, in a timely manner.
  • \n

  • Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • \n

  • Use AIDET to communicate with patients. Identify patient service needs, ensure the correct exam is performed, and build rapport with patients and others.
  • \n

  • Instructs and communicates with patients and their families about the test. Assesses the patient's ability to tolerate the exam.
  • \n

  • Prepare the patient and area for the procedure. Position the patient, adjust immobilization devices, and move equipment into position. Adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • \n

  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection control, drug and radiation policies, protocols, and techniques.
  • \n

  • Uses proper sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.
  • \n

  • Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards.
  • \n

  • Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment performance. Reports issues to management or the appropriate department.
  • \n

  • Assists in maintaining supplies inventory.
  • \n

  • Ensures people are safe to enter the department by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.
  • \n

  • Obtain, verify, and maintain all relevant documents like requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status, shielding precautions, consent forms, policies, and procedures.
  • \n

  • Maintain medical imaging records in the correct system. Follow department policies and standards for timely interpretation.
  • \n

  • Able to stay calm and helpful during stress and take reasonable steps to resolve issues.

  • Able to effectively administer first aid and use the emergency cart.
  • \n

  • Ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service. Remain professional, review patient satisfaction scores, and develop action plans when needed.
  • \n

  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge, education, and skills for these age groups: newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric.
  • \n

  • Able to serve as a preceptor by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.
  • \n

  • Able to take calls, if required.
  • \n

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
    ARRT-T Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T): Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T).
