Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown/IMC position requiring at least 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience, cardiac monitoring skills, and comfort with cardiac drips.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting in a 30-bed Intermediate Care (IMC) Stepdown unit
- Patient population includes cardiac patients, post-cath lab, post-pneumonia, seizures, ETOH/CIWA protocols, and pacemaker patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6 depending on acuity
- RNs are required to titrate drips including cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax
- Monitor techs are available 24/7; RNs are expected to read and interpret telemetry strips, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms
- RT is assigned to the unit 24/7 and manages respiratory equipment (BiPAP, Airvo, trachs); RNs are expected to be able to troubleshoot equipment appropriately
- Charge nurse is present on each shift; day shift charge typically does not take a patient assignment, while night shift charge carries a lighter assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are on the unit and assist with ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, call lights, and blood sugars
- Hospitalist/nocturnist available for the entire hospital at night
- 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), with a 6:45–7:15 report window
- Every other weekend (EOW) required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to any inpatient unit

Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience required
- Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and managing cardiac drips
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- A copy of all certifications required for consideration
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Two references required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 2 days of general orientation and 1 day with a preceptor
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Holiday rotation coverage may be required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
