JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant/ LPN provides clinical & administrative support to clinicians & other healthcare team members, offering various healthcare services to patients. As appropriate to the position's scope of authorized duties, the MA/LPN is required to have competent observational, clinical, critical thinking, communication, problem-solving & decision-making skills to meet patient needs & contribute to a positive care experience & work environment. The position works under the clinical supervision of the clinician for patient care activities, & the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Escort patients to examination rooms, obtain vital signs and review and reconcile pertinent patient information and history in preparation for an appointment with the provider.
- Assists provider during examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries.
- Administer diagnostic tests and provider-approved procedures, such as immunizations and others, as assigned.
- Successfully collaborate and work in support of the team to ensure efficient and quality patient care.
- Clean and stock exam rooms to include procedure tables, equipment, and other work areas following current infection control and/or isolation procedure guidelines.
- Provides limited education and coaching for patients within scope, including discharge information and responding to follow-up questions- instructs patients about prescribed medications and dosing.
- Responds directly (in person) & indirectly (via phone or online) to patient questions requiring simple to complex clinical knowledge & skills.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens. Complete screenings and collect and review patient data per protocol. Follows up on test results as directed by healthcare Providers. Documents specimens collected and result in the electronic medical record (EMR).
ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENTLY WITH THE ORGANIZATION'S PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):
- Degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Active Oregon state license.
- One (1) year experience as a LPN. Three (3) years experience as a LPN preferred.
- Preferred experience in Pediatrics but not required.
- BLS/CPR.
Medical Assistant:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year experience as a Medical Assistant is preferred.
- Preferred experience in Pediatrics but not required.
- Medical Assistants must obtain their certification (CCMA, CMA, RMA, or NCMA) within 90-days from their date of hire.
- CPR/BLS.

- Clinical knowledge and skills with the patient population of the clinical areas of the position.
- Knowledge of the evidence-based practice process.
- Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic medical record
- Capability to make accurate patient observations, communicate, and record them

Work Environment/Physical Requirements
- Environmentally controlled medical office environment
- Fast-paced setting with occasional high-pressure or emergent situations
- Handling specimens of blood or body fluids, including secretions and excretions.
- Exposure to various chemical agents typically used in a clinical setting.
- Must be able to stand, stoop, walk, bend, and kneel for prolonged periods.
- Work closely with others in a team setting.
- Work hours subject to office needs to ensure coverage during all hours of operation
- Frequent interaction with a diverse population, including team members, providers, patients, vendors, and other members of the public
Immunizations are a requirement for employment to help ensure a safe and healthy workplace by reducing the risk of communicable diseases. TCC requires proof of vaccination including MMR, Hepatitis B, Tdap, Varicella, Influenza, and TB Screening.
