Job Title: Mentor Coordinator Grade: 004
Department: Prevention Pay Status: Hourly
Reports to: Director, Asset Building FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The Mentor Coordinator supports AFG’s mission, and the Asset Building Program’s goal to enhance
academic learning and college preparedness, helping first-generation students achieve higher education.
Key Responsibilities:
• Screen and train adult volunteer mentors to serve as stable, positive influences with a goal of
helping program participants establish healthy relationships in their lives.
• Match volunteer mentors and mentees using the program’s application process.
• Assist mentors with establishing positive relationships with program participants.
• Provide support and ongoing training to mentors, program participants and their families.
• Assist with organizing group events and activities to grow the mentor-mentee relationship.
• Update and analyze mentor logs, addressing any concerns/comments raised by the mentor.
• Meet all grant requirements related to mentor recruitment and training.
• Compile statistics that contribute to monthly, annual and ad hoc reports.
• Ensure completion of documentation and data entry for all project activities.
• Perform other duties, as assigned.
Demonstrated Abilities:
• Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Good written and oral communication skills, diplomacy and tact
• Demonstrated reliability and attendance
Acquired Knowledge:
• Requires an associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, education or a human services field
(an equivalent amount of life and/or work experience may be considered); and
• A minimum of 1-3 years of experience working with youth who are involved in high-risk activities,
such as: gangs, violence, drugs, truancy, sexual activity, and/or living in a high-risk environment.
• Must possess a current driver’s license, good driving record and access to a personal vehicle
• Requires basic computer software and data entry skills
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
