The Materials Manager will oversee the supply planning, sourcing, and procurement of materials required for production, as well as some non-production indirect commodities. This role is responsible for implementing policies, procedures, and metrics to support the successful execution of the supply plan. The Materials Manager is also responsible for the management of the supply base for North American production, ensuring materials and vendors meet quality and contract specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creates and executes the supply plan for The Company’s production facilities and ensures timely delivery of materials to production while balancing working capital and physical storage space.
- Leads team of material planners and buyers in the execution of standardized purchasing and supply planning processes.
- Works with manufacturing planning and product development teams to plan and prioritize purchasing activities.
- Owns the processes pertaining to purchasing, contract management, supplier management, and materials management for North America and ensures compliance to company standards and policies
- Delegates tasks, trains employees on procedures and processes, provides workforce with appropriate tools and equipment, oversees and approves employee time transactions, evaluates employee performance and recommends employment actions.
- Establishes company procurement policies, procedures, and key performance indicators. Measures results to KPIs and identifies continuous improvement opportunities that increase effectiveness and reduce cost.
- Builds and manages key partnerships with suppliers. Analyzes market conditions and trends to ensure best sourcing, pricing, and availability.
- Negotiates contracts for the purchase of materials, equipment, supplies and services.
- Works with initiators to develop and refine specifications for commodities, supplies or equipment.
- Processes purchase order transactions; examines purchase requisitions for completeness, accuracy and adherence to procurement policies and procedures.
- Selects vendor from which to procure requisitioned product or service meeting reliability, price, quantity, quality, and technical support and delivery criteria.
- Identifies and evaluates new sources of technical supplies, securing favorable terms; updates records and files and secures samples, descriptions, photos, or information for departments.
- Communicates purchasing procedures to departments; assists departments in initiating requisitions and purchase orders and provides problem resolution.
- Writes and distributes requests for proposals; receives and analyzes bids, quotes, proposals, and awards the contract.
- Collaborates across multiple departments including within Supply Chain (Planning, Logistics, Production) and external stakeholders such as Engineering and Market, to deliver outcomes relating to new product development, cost reduction opportunities, and improving the customer experience.

What you will need to succeed:
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business with 10 years of related work experience.
- In-depth knowledge of purchasing methods, procedures, and specification writing.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Possesses strong negotiation skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet proficiency
- Knowledge of J. D. Edwards software or similar ERP systems, particularly purchasing and MRP functionality
