YouthBuild DC Public Charter School (YouthBuild PCS) is an alternative high school for young people seeking to transform their lives by re-engaging in their education in a non-traditional school environment. YouthBuild PCS prepares students for post-secondary education and the workplace by offering, in English and Spanish, academic, vocational and workforce development programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
YouthBuild PCS is hiring a special education GED teacher. Special education teachers at YouthBuild PCS are responsible for creating a supportive, empowering learning environment, with specific duties including, but not limited to:
Curriculum and Instruction
- Collaborate with general education teachers to develop and deliver specialized instruction in the classroom designed to help students meet IEP goals and pass the GED
- Utilize strong content knowledge to prepare and deliver engaging, rigorous, and GED-aligned lessons
- Use information and data from a variety of sources to understand students developmental and instructional needs and to improve teaching and learning
Assessment
- Administer and develop subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing IEPs
- Assess student progress against IEP goals, learning targets, objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration and informing annual IEP reviews
- Track and monitor assessment results in order to regularly refine teaching practices and design differentiated lesson plans
Special Education Case Management
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students on assigned caseload, including modifying assessments and classwork and enacting accommodations as appropriate
- Maintain accurate, up to date, and well organized special education records, to include documentation of service delivery by all professionals providing services to students on the Special Education Teachers caseload and monitor the documentation of special education services provided as required by IDEA
- Gather data, documenting through the Special Education Data System (SEDS), and any other aspects of the IDEA compliance process
- Work with related service providers, such as therapists and social workers, to maximize the professionals impact with identified special education students
- Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding current best practice in special education services for young adult students
- Collaborate with families, students, and the College and Career Readiness team to develop an effective and viable transition plan and communicate with families and students regarding service delivery and student progress
School Culture
- Support all school staff in implementing effective and consistent school-wide restorative practices and developing students prosocial behaviors, with special attention to understanding and supporting students with behavioral disabilities
- Establish and implement effective classroom management procedures to maintain a productive, safe, and focused learning environment
- Implement Behavior Improvement Plans (BIPs) and ensure their consistent application across classrooms and educational settings
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal candidates will have the following education and experience:
- Alignment with YouthBuilds mission to transform lives of DC opportunity youth
- Bachelors degree required; concentration or advanced degree in special education preferred
- Current special education certification in the District of Columbia
- Two or more years of teaching experience, preferably including knowledge of and experience with the revised GED
- Commitment to mentoring and educating opportunity youth, and belief that all students can achieve success
- Demonstrated ability to provide engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction while maintaining strong classroom culture
- Commitment to regularly assessing student progress and using data to strengthen student performance
- Demonstrated ability to engage diverse young adult learners, including those with disabilities and English Language Learners
- Familiarity with youth development principles and alternative high schools
- Strong cultural competency skills, including excellent ability to communicate with a diverse students and staff
- Must be flexible, energetic, and resourceful
