We are currently seeking a compassionate, experienced Medical Director to lead and support our clinical team in delivering exceptional hospice care.
Position Summary:
The Medical Director of Hospice provides overall medical oversight of patient care in accordance with hospice regulations and organizational standards. This role ensures the highest quality of care is delivered to patients and families, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, and ensures regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the physician member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), participating in care planning and case review meetings.
- Certify patient eligibility for hospice services in accordance with CMS guidelines.
- Provide consultation and guidance to hospice nurses, social workers, and other clinical staff.
- Review and approve plans of care, medication management, and clinical documentation.
- Serve as a liaison with attending physicians and provide guidance as needed.
- Assist with patient admissions and discharges, including in-person or telehealth visits as necessary.
- Participate in the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs.
- Support compliance with all applicable hospice regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission).
- Educate and provide leadership on best practices in palliative and end-of-life care.
- Participate in community and professional education as a representative of the hospice.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
- Board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine preferred (or willing to obtain certification).
- Active and unrestricted medical license in the state of California
- DEA license and CPR/BLS certification.
- Minimum of 23 years experience in hospice, palliative care, geriatrics, or related field.
- Strong understanding of hospice philosophy and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills.
- Empathetic and patient-centered approach to care.
Preferred Qualities:
- Experience in medical leadership or administrative roles.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and documentation best practices.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
