Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) position is available at a school located in Nottingham, MD. This onsite contract role involves working directly with students to provide essential orientation and mobility training, helping them develop independent travel skills and confidence in various environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' orientation and mobility needs
  • Develop and implement individualized training plans
  • Teach safe travel techniques using canes, guide dogs, and other mobility aids
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to integrate mobility goals into educational programs
  • Maintain accurate records and progress reports

Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Experience working with children in educational settings
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work full-time onsite in Nottingham, MD
