Job Description
About This Role
Are you tired of the traditional public accounting grind where your busy season hours go uncompensated?
We are a century-old, independent CPA firm in the Chicago suburbs, and we believe in paying our team for the hard work they put in. We offer a highly consultative, boutique environment rather than a compliance-only factory. We also provide a compensation structure you rarely find in public accounting, including straight-time pay for overtime, an employer-funded 9% profit share, and a 15% lifetime commission on clients you bring in.
We are looking for a driven tax professional to step into, or rapidly develop into, our firm’s leading internal authority on trust and estate taxation, with a clear runway toward future partnership and ownership.
What You Will Do
- Serve as the primary point of contact and technical expert for the taxation of trusts and estates.
- Prepare and review complex income tax returns, focusing on closely held businesses (S-Corps and Partnerships) and high-net-worth individuals.
- Provide proactive tax planning, consulting, and advisory services to a dedicated client base.
- Stay current on recent Federal and Illinois state tax regulations to provide elite guidance.
- Travel locally within the Chicagoland area for hands-on, face-to-face client consulting when needed.
What You Bring to the Table
- Experience: 4+ years of recent public accounting experience focused on tax preparation and review.
- Expertise: Strong proficiency in business taxation (S-Corps and Partnerships) and individual returns, alongside a deep understanding of, or a strong desire to master, trust and estate tax.
- Credentials: A CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential is highly preferred to maximize your client-service capabilities and career mobility.
- Drive: You want more than a 9-to-5 job; you are client-focused and looking to build a long-term, lucrative career.
The Perks and Compensation
We do not just offer work-life balance; we financially reward you when the balance tips toward work. In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer:
- Paid Overtime: Hours worked over a standard 40-hour week are paid out. Hit your annual 1,675 billable hour target, and OT is paid at your full base hourly rate (bank it for extra PTO or cash it out annually).
- Lifetime Origination Bonus: Earn a 15% share of gross revenue for any new client you bring to the firm, which is paid out for the entire lifetime of that client's relationship with us.
- Elite Profit Sharing: We boast a self-directed 401(k) program where, for over 20 consecutive years, the firm has contributed approximately 9% of each employee’s salary annually, regardless of whether you contribute yourself.
- Premium Healthcare: 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for you (spouse and dependent coverage available).
- Total Protection: Short and long-term disability, basic life insurance, and identity theft protection plans.
Schedule Expectations
- Target: 1,675 billable hours annually.
- Busy Seasons: 55+ hours per week during peak periods (January through mid-April, and August through mid-October), including Saturdays 9 AM to 4 PM.
- Off-Peak: Highly flexible 40 to 50-hour work weeks outside of busy seasons.
