CNC Lathe Programmer | East Lansing, MI

Salary Range: $60,000 - $95,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and optimize CNC programs for lathe machines using G-code and M-code.
  • Interpret engineering blueprints, CAD models, and technical specifications to determine machining processes.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, workholding devices, and machine parameters for various materials and part geometries.
  • Perform program simulations and dry runs to verify accuracy, prevent collisions, and ensure part quality.
  • Collaborate with machinists and engineers to troubleshoot program issues and improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Optimize existing programs to reduce cycle times, minimize waste, and enhance part precision.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation, including setup sheets and tool lists, for production use.

Recommended Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in CNC lathe programming, setup, and operation.
  • Proficiency in G-code and M-code programming, along with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidCAM, Fusion 360).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tooling selection, cutting parameters, and material properties for various metals and plastics.
  • Experience with process optimization, troubleshooting machining issues, and performing program prove-outs.
  • Understanding of quality control principles and use of precision measurement tools.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced G-code editing and optimization directly at the machine control.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling for fixture design or complex part features.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience programming multi-axis or live-tooling lathes.
