Position: Inventory Manager
Reports To: President
FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARY: The First Tactical Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing company-wide inventory strategy, accuracy, and performance across all product categories. This role leads and supports Planner/Buyers, ensuring disciplined planning, purchasing execution, and inventory optimization aligned with sales forecasts and business goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inventory Strategy & Governance
· Own inventory strategy, policies, and best practices across all categories
· Establish inventory targets, KPIs, and controls to support service levels and working capital goals
· Monitor inventory health including turns, aging, excess, and obsolescence
· Lead inventory risk assessment and mitigation planning
Planner / Buyer Leadership
· Directly manage and mentor Planner/Buyers across categories (Bottoms, Tops/Outerwear, Hardlines)
· Review and approve buy plans, forecasts, and purchasing strategies
· Ensure Planner/Buyers execute against timelines, budgets, and inventory targets
· Provide coaching, performance feedback, and development planning
Planning & Purchasing Oversight
· Oversee demand planning and purchasing execution across categories
· Review purchase order strategy, production timelines, and vendor performance
· Ensure alignment between sales forecasts, inventory investment, and capacity
· Escalate and resolve inventory or supply risks in partnership with leadership
Cross-Functional Alignment
· Partner with Sales, Product Development, Sourcing, Logistics, and Finance to align demand and supply
· Participate in S&OP or demand review meetings
· Communicate inventory risks, opportunities, and recommendations to leadership
· Support new product launches and seasonal transitions
Reporting & Analytics
· Own inventory reporting and analysis across categories
· Review and validate Planner/Buyer reporting and assumptions
· Provide clear, actionable insights to leadership on inventory performance
· Drive continuous improvement through data-driven decision making
Process Improvement & Scalability
· Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for planning and purchasing
· Identify opportunities to improve forecasting accuracy, inventory visibility, and execution
· Support ERP/WMS enhancements and system discipline
· Ensure audit-ready documentation and process compliance
· Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
· 5+ years of experience in inventory management, planning, or supply chain roles
· 2+ years of experience leading planners, buyers, or similar roles
· Strong understanding of inventory planning, forecasting, and purchasing processes
· Experience managing multi-category or high-SKU environments
· Advance proficiency with ERP systems and Excel
· Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
· Experience in apparel, footwear, or hardlines industries
· Experience working with overseas vendors and sourcing partners
· Experience supporting seasonal planning and long lead-time products
· Familiarity with S&OP processes

· Typing and Computer Work: Frequent use of a computer, including mouse, keyboard, and graphic design software, requiring dexterity and visual acuity.
· Vision: Ability to see clearly and distinguish fine details in design work and screen-based tasks for extended periods.
· Hearing and Speaking: Regular communication with colleagues, team members, and external partners through phone, video conferencing, and in-person meetings.
