Job Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – ECMO Specialist | Travel Contract
Location: Minneapolis, MN 55407-3723
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night Shift – 3x12 Hours (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Schedule: Every other weekend required
Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed (may be discussed with manager)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – ECMO Specialist to support a high-acuity, adult critical care environment. This role requires hands-on experience managing ECMO systems and delivering advanced respiratory care to critically ill patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and manage ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) systems
- Provide advanced respiratory care in adult critical care settings
- Perform airway management including intubation assist, extubation, suctioning, and tracheostomy care
- Administer respiratory medications using various delivery systems
- Manage oxygen therapy including HFNC, trach collar, and ventilator support
- Monitor and manage patients with complex conditions such as ARDS, pneumonia, COVID, and post-bronchoscopy care
- Perform arterial punctures and interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Troubleshoot ventilators and assist in weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Support interdepartmental and transport ventilation needs
- Maintain accurate documentation using electronic medical records (Excellian/Epic)
- Float to other units as needed based on competency
Requirements
- Active RRT certification and state license (must be active by start date)
- Minimum 2 years of RRT experience
- Minimum 1 year of ECMO Specialist experience (required)
- Adult critical care experience required
- Arterial puncture experience required
Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- RRT Credential
Clinical Skills Required
- ECMO management and protocol-driven care
- Airway management: ET tube, tracheostomy, suctioning, extubation
- Ventilator management: BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, troubleshooting alarms, ventilator weaning
- Oxygen therapy: HFNC, trach collar, T-piece, portable oxygen
- Nebulizer systems: cold, heated, ultrasonic, hand-held, trach collar
- Medication administration: bronchodilators, inhaled steroids, nitric oxide, and other respiratory therapies
- Pulmonary hygiene and sputum specimen collection
- ABG interpretation and chest physiotherapy
Additional Details
- Occasional rotation to day shift (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) as needed
- On-call required as needed
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- First-time travelers accepted (with required ECMO experience)
- Local candidates accepted
- Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts during the assignment
- Floating required based on unit needs
