Compensation: $75.00-$100.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Position Overview

The Baha Bay Area Headquarters Authority is seeking an experienced Backup Embedded On-Site Broadcast Engineer to provide on-site technical coverage when the primary engineer is unavailable. This role is critical to ensuring the successful live broadcast of government meetings by confirming that broadcast control rooms and meeting support systems are tested, operational, and ready before air.

This position is best suited for a seasoned broadcast engineer with strong hands-on troubleshooting experience in live production environments. The successful candidate will be comfortable working under pressure, quickly diagnosing technical issues, and supporting mission-critical broadcasts with professionalism and confidence. Proximity to Financial District in San Francisco is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site backup engineering support for live government meeting broadcasts.
  • Test and verify readiness of two broadcast control rooms prior to scheduled meetings.
  • Troubleshoot live production systems, including switchers, graphics systems, audio systems, and related broadcast infrastructure.
  • Test and confirm that multiple meeting room environment systems are fully operational and prepared to support live broadcasts.
  • Ensure designated control rooms and meeting spaces are ready for air before each scheduled government meeting.
  • Remain on-site and available beginning 10 minutes before the meeting goes on the air and until 10 minutes after the broadcast has commenced successfully.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to technical issues in a live, time-sensitive environment.
  • Coordinate with operations and technical staff to maintain continuity and broadcast readiness.
  • Document significant technical issues and corrective actions, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience supporting and troubleshooting television broadcast control rooms in live environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Broadcast switchers
    • Graphics systems
    • Audio systems
    • Control room workflows and signal paths
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot under pressure in live broadcast situations.
  • Experience supporting meeting room AV and broadcast-related systems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Reliable availability for weekday backup coverage on an as-needed basis.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work on-site in control rooms, equipment spaces, and meeting room environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move between rooms during support activities.
  • Ability to operate technical equipment, controls, keyboards, and cabling.
  • Ability to visually monitor system displays and hear audio/intercom cues in a live production environment.
  • Ability to lift and move moderate equipment consistent with broadcast and AV support duties.

Work Environment

This position is performed in an active live broadcast and meeting support environment where responsiveness, accuracy, and sound technical judgment are essential.
