Salary: $31.92-35.56
This position will remain open until filled with preference given to applications received by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025.
Primary Objective of Position
The Street Supervisor is responsible for general supervision of Metro Bus’s public transportation system’s on-street operations. The Street Supervisor observes transit operations, delivery performance and service area/route conditions and interprets and applies collective bargaining agreement (CBA) language, policies, rules and regulations. The Street Supervisor provides indirect supervision and management of the Bus Operator, Dispatcher, Dispatcher Analyst, and Scheduling and Service Support Specialist positions.
Essential Functions of the Position

- Daily Supervision of Street Operations
- Monitor operations activities through documentation and frequent interaction with all Operators
- Respond to on-board fare box issues and report of on-street vehicle defects. Assess vehicle condition for continued on-street use
- Respond to accidents or other emergency situations, conduct on-the-street accident investigation and document information to claims loss adjusting system
- Prepare and execute operational contingency plans due to unexpected weather, detours, or equipment failure
- Assist in route planning by developing routes and schedules
- Monitor and report bus shelter and bus stop signs for maintenance and improvement
- Assist transit center staff with change and fare media, enforcing policies and procedures, security issues, loitering, facility cleaning, and grounds maintenance
- Management and Supervision of Staff
- Assist in managing employee performance; provide coaching and mentoring, address performance concerns and assist with issuing discipline as appropriate
- Responsible for daily supervision of Fixed Route and Dial-a-Ride staff for adherence to terms and conditions under the CBA, policies, rules, regulations and schedules
- Responsible for daily observation of Operator job performance and conduct Initiates disciplinary action through issuance of Supervisor Reports. Makes recommendations and supports Operations Manager in disciplinary meetings
- Ensure compliance with policies, rules, regulations and schedules. Maintain appropriate written documentation
- Confer with Operators regarding proper safety procedures, defensive driving techniques, report preparation, and new or revised policies, procedures and/or schedules
- Review and approve daily and weekly payroll for Operators and Dispatch
- Assist the Human Resource and Training and Safety department in:
- Screening, interviewing and hiring of direct and indirect Operations staff
- Planning and preparation of training and remedial programs to new and present staff
- Maintaining the application of appropriate preventative measures and procedures for shop safety and OSHA compliance
- Ensure proper care and use of vehicles, tools, equipment and shop areas
- Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains respectful working relationships with coworkers and customers in carrying out job functions
- Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices
- Knows and follows safety rules and guidelines as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss
- Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work
- When potentially unsafe conditions are observed, makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner
- Performs other duties and activities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The job requires a two (2) year degree or certification or two (2) years of post-secondary education in business, public administration, personnel, or transportation or related field. Minimum of three (3) years of management and supervisory experience and demonstrated background in transit or vehicle fleet operations, personnel management and supervision or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required include:
- Considerable knowledge of vehicle and fleet operations including management and supervision of Operators and support staff
- High level of proficiency in the use of computers and ability to learn and use scheduling and transportation software
- Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Must be able to read and speak English clearly. Bilingual a plus
- Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions and complete written reports
- Ability to work flexible work schedules including late evenings, early mornings and weekends
- Ability to maintain a valid Class B Minnesota Driver License, with passenger and air brake endorsements, and a current DOT medical certificate
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with co-workers, subordinates, and the general public and to diffuse situations/conversations that have escalated beyond normal limits
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange and or convey information, receive work direction, and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees, committees and groups; and to diffuse situations/conversations that have escalated beyond normal limits

Physical Demands and Working Environment
- This position is primarily in off-site locations including buses and support vehicles and occasionally in an office environment requiring alternating periods of sitting, standing and walking
- Moderate exposure to temperature extremes, and occasional exposure to noise, physical and/or chemical hazards
- Utilizes computer, 2-way radio, phone and other office equipment on a regular basis
- Will require frequent travel outside of the office. Will primarily utilize a Metro Bus vehicle for travel.
- This position requires 24/7 availability either in person or by phone. Metro Bus shall reimburse the employee a monthly fee for use of his or her own personal cell phone for business purpose
