Job Summary:


This is a high-profile, leadership role for a professional with powerful accounting technical skills and a proven track record in policy research and adoption. The role interfaces with executive leadership, across all financial functions, and extensively with external parties. Strong communication and influencing skills are required in conjunction with exceptional accounting, research, and decision-making skills.


You will be responsible for leading the accounting research function, including the maintenance of all accounting policies and certain corporate policies. You will partner with the external auditor to ensure the correct accounting on material and judgmental accounting matters. These may include complex contracts, new and/or unusual transactions, and regulatory outcomes. The resources in this group will also assist with peak-time financial reporting responsibilities, as needed - usually at year-end.


  • Develops and implements departmental policies related to the accounting research function.
  • Manages the staff of the research and policy function.
  • Reviews complex transactions for applicable accounting guidance and coordinates with personnel initiating the transaction: Tax, FP&A, Financial Reporting, and others.
  • Manages the process to obtain agreement from our external auditors on our accounting for complex transactions.
  • Manages the implementation of new accounting guidance from FASB, the SEC, and others.
  • Manages the review, updating, and publication of accounting policies and corporate policies owned by the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Manages resources loaned to the Financial Reporting group during peak work times for Financial Reporting.


Qualifications

Technical Knowledge/Skill:


Knowledge:


  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), standard accounting policies, procedures, and practices
  • Knowledge and experience with financial statement preparation
  • Knowledge and experience with financial management procedures and techniques
  • Knowledge of SEC reporting rules and regulations


Skills:


  • Ability to effectively lead, manage, and develop an engaged workforce.
  • Extensive resourcefulness to anticipate, define, and direct solutions to complex and/or unusual accounting, finance, or regulatory issues related to the business area.
  • Extensive analytical skills, including the ability to draw sound conclusions and act decisively.
