Job Title: Surgical Assistant
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Job Type: Contract
Hours: 42 hours per week
Shift: Day Shift (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Surgical Assistant to support surgeons during operative procedures, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. This role requires strong technical expertise, particularly in robotic and orthopedic surgeries, along with the ability to assist in complex surgical cases.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons during operative procedures under direct supervision
  • Position patients to ensure optimal surgical exposure
  • Provide visualization of the operative site using retractors, suction, and tissue manipulation
  • Assist with hemostasis, suturing, and wound closure techniques
  • Handle sutures and perform subcutaneous and skin closures
  • Apply wound dressings and assist with drainage systems
  • Assist with harvesting veins, arteries, tendons, bone, and tissue as required
  • Maintain sterile technique and ensure patient safety
  • Stay updated on surgical technologies and best practices
  • Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to ensure smooth workflow

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assisting or Surgical Technology program
    OR
  • Foreign Medical Graduate with 3+ years of Surgical Assistant experience in the U.S.
  • Minimum 2+ years of Surgical Assistant experience
  • Strong experience in robotic and orthopedic surgeries (required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS – AHA) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • NSAA or CFA certification (AST)
  • RNFA (NASC certification)
  • 4+ years of general surgical experience with specialty exposure

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Strong clinical judgment and technical skills
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure surgical environments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Education Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Surgical Assisting
    OR
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Assisting program
