Job Title: Surgical Assistant
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Job Type: Contract
Hours: 42 hours per week
Shift: Day Shift (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Surgical Assistant to support surgeons during operative procedures, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. This role requires strong technical expertise, particularly in robotic and orthopedic surgeries, along with the ability to assist in complex surgical cases.
Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons during operative procedures under direct supervision
- Position patients to ensure optimal surgical exposure
- Provide visualization of the operative site using retractors, suction, and tissue manipulation
- Assist with hemostasis, suturing, and wound closure techniques
- Handle sutures and perform subcutaneous and skin closures
- Apply wound dressings and assist with drainage systems
- Assist with harvesting veins, arteries, tendons, bone, and tissue as required
- Maintain sterile technique and ensure patient safety
- Stay updated on surgical technologies and best practices
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to ensure smooth workflow
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assisting or Surgical Technology program
OR - Foreign Medical Graduate with 3+ years of Surgical Assistant experience in the U.S.
- Minimum 2+ years of Surgical Assistant experience
- Strong experience in robotic and orthopedic surgeries (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS – AHA) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- NSAA or CFA certification (AST)
- RNFA (NASC certification)
- 4+ years of general surgical experience with specialty exposure
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Strong clinical judgment and technical skills
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure surgical environments
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Education Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Surgical Assisting
OR - Completion of an accredited Surgical Assisting program
