Camp Mendocino is a residential summer camp located in Northern California, four hours north of San Francisco and spread over 2,000 acres. We provide transportation between San Francisco and Camp at the start and end of the summer. All Camp employees are expected to live, sleep and work at Camp. As a program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF), we are dedicated to providing children and teens with safe, fun places to learn and grow, with professional staff to offer support and guidance, serving as caring mentors and role models.

Position Purpose

The Healthcare Intern is an opportunity for someone with interest in a career in healthcare to get experience in a working health center. The Healthcare Intern will work with other on-site medical staff to monitor the daily tasks and incidents of the health center, organize logs and critical paperwork, and administer medications to campers and staff. Other responsibilities include providing basic first aid, monitoring health issues both in and outside of the health center, completing necessary paperwork/documentation, and ensuring all medical needs on site are met. The medical staff work as a close team, in collaboration with the Camp leadership team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administers health checks for every camper on first day of each session
  • With the senior leadership, manage our Infectious Disease response in case of symptoms developed or a positive test result
  • Ensures that all medications are administered according to doctors’ orders or “as needed”
  • Attends to “walk in” campers and staff with basic first aid needs
  • Acts as a liaison with parents and/or doctors regarding camper medications, illnesses, and injuries
  • Monitors and assesses all campers and staff in the health center, overnight as needed
  • Work 8 hours shifts and be “on call” in the evenings (2 days off per week)
  • Provides health education on hydration, sleep, stress, and other best practices
  • Monitors and maintains all logs and proper documentation
  • Provides daily updates to Camp Director and Facilities Manager

Requirements:

Required Skills

  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Ability to work with youth and staff in a positive manner
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle difficult or stressful situations in a professional manner
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience/interest working at a summer camp

Preferred Skills

  • Current Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, or EMT Certification
  • Experience being a first responder
  • California driver’s license
  • Experience working with youth in a medical setting

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain for at least 3 miles
  • Must be able to stand for 8 hours (with breaks)
  • Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 30&degree; to 100&degree;

Schedule

  • Temporary/Seasonal Summer position.
  • Applicants should be available June 12 - August 6, 2026 to work & live on-site at our Camp location in Northern California (Mendocino County).
  • Staff members work 40-56 hours/week depending on position with two days off per week. Days off vary per session.

Lodging

Lodging is provided for all staff on site. Camp Medical Staff will not be required to stay in a cabin with youth on a regular basis, but will be assigned bunk-style indoor housing that may be shared with up to 3 other staff members.

Pay

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation. As such, a reasonable estimate for this temporary summer position from June 12- August 6, 2025, is $4,400.
