Monday thru Friday

9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Unit Secretary/CNA provides vital clerical and clinical support to the nursing staff in a fast-paced setting. This dual-role position supports the smooth operation of the nursing unit by performing administrative functions such as patient registration for the Emergency Department and In-Patient admissions, as well as providing hands-on patient care as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) based on patient census and unit needs. The Unit Secretary serves as a central communication link at the nurses’ station and contributes to a positive patient care environment.

Requirements

  • Education
    1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
    2. Certification from a CNA training program.
  • Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
    1. Current Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification issued by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS). Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
    2. Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Experience
    1. Previous experience as a Unit Secretary and/or CNA in a healthcare setting, preferred.
    2. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR).
  • Skills
    1. Strong computer, typing, and communication skills.
    2. Excellent organizational and multitasking ability.
    3. Attention to detail and time management skills.
    4. Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
    5. Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Language Skills
    1. Must be capable of communicating clearly (reading, writing, and speaking) in the English Language. Must be capable of reading and comprehending written policies/procedures and operation/maintenance instructions. Must have the ability to receive and relay phone or other business messages.

    1. Must be able to operate computer, telephone and other department specific equipment required to perform duties of position.

    2. Frequently required to lift or move an adult patient using appropriate safety protocols (i.e. gate belt, team assist moves, etc.)
    3. Manual dexterity required.
    4. High degree of physical activity. Frequently required to stand for long periods of time.
    5. Vision: specific abilities for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, color vision, seeing fine details.
    6. Hearing: specific abilities required for this position include hearing normal speech, hearing overhead pages, telephone use, verbal communication in the English language.
