Physical Therapy Aide

Job Summary:

The Physical Therapy Aide is an employee of The Physical Therapy Specialty Center (PTSC), a division of Primary Care Partners. The Aide is an active staff member and maintains the responsibility for assisting in the operational flow of the clinic needs as assigned.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Patient Direct care (all in supervision and per request of primary PT)
    • Escort patients upon arrival to areas identified by PTs
    • Assist patients in education and performance of exercises, providing written/copied materials as needed
    • Set up, perform and monitor modalities as directed by PT
    • Setup and perform initial VA pre-employment screens per protocol
    • Be able to coordinate and maintain multi-patient needs
    • Assist PTs in direct care with patients as requested
    • Inform PT (PT supervisor if needed) of patient concerns, complaints, noted observations
    • Assist patients out of the clinic if needed; assist in transfer of equipment for patients if needed
    • Maintain yearly competencies
  • Patient Indirect care
    • Assist patients in checking in/scheduling appointments
    • Score and record index questionnaires, review paperwork as able to ensure completeness
    • Complete confirmation calls for follow up/reschedule appointments
    • Monitor changes in daily schedule, assist PTs/clinic staff in keeping informed of changes,
    • Complete calls to patients who no-show for follow up rescheduling
    • Complete and distribute cancellation/no show lists to all PTs weekly
    • Contact requested medical offices for support documents (ie diagnostic results, dictated notes, etc)
    • Review patient clinic documentation as needed to assist in treatment plan of care

  • Equipment
    • Prepare designated equipment for patients (ie exercise balls, theraband, etc)
    • Monitor and perform daily cleaning as needed (ie Graston equipment
    • Weekly cleaning of clinic equipment (refer to cleaning schedule)
  • Clinic
    • Perform clinic morning/evening functions (start-up/shut down computers, lights, etc)
    • Clean and stock (linens, brochures/handouts) all treatment rooms
    • Laundry of clinic linens
    • Follow safe handling procedures in all instances
    • Monitor and report supply needs

Work Experience:

  • Health care setting, preferred
  • Computer experience, preferred

Education Requirements:

  • High school graduate, preferred

General Requirements:

Must be able to work under pressure; be detail oriented; have good work ethics and communication skills and must have the ability to work well with supervisor and other staff members.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position at 40 hours a week. Works primarily (-----). Expected hours of work may change at any time with or without notice.

Working Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment with outpatient medical exam rooms.

Physical Demands:

  • This position requires frequent bending and lifting, and the ability to assist patients with a variety of therapy needs/activities
  • Employee must be able to lift 50 pounds to the chest height and maintain good body mechanics
  • Employee must be able to sit and provide computer input frequently
  • Employee must be able to squat, kneel, bend frequently during course of the day
