JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Carpenter Apprentice
Department: Construction
Reports To: Supervisor
Location: PFM Jobsites Guam USA
Employment Type: Apprenticeship (Full-Time)
Summary/Objective:
The Carpenter Apprentice supports experienced carpenters and construction teams by assisting in the preparation, installation, and finishing of wood structures, fixtures, and surfaces. This role involves learning to read blueprints, measuring and cutting materials, assembling forms, and ensuring the safe and clean condition of job sites. The Carpenter Apprentice will progressively develop the skills necessary for independent work through hands-on training, while maintaining a focus on safety, quality, and attention to detail.
Essential Functions:

- Clean and maintain work sites to ensure a safe, organized environment.
- Review blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand work requirements.
- Mark reference points and measure materials or objects for installation and assembly.
- Assemble and position temporary equipment, structures, forms, or molds as needed.
- Cut wood and other materials accurately for construction or installation purposes.
- Install wooden structural components, flooring, carpet, and building fixtures under supervision.
- Verify the alignment, fit, and quality of assembled structures or installed equipment.
- Apply decorative or texture finishes, fillers, and coverings to surfaces.
- Remove worn, damaged, or outdated materials from work areas.
- Drill holes and mix substances or compounds required for construction activities.
- Position safety and support equipment in compliance with safety guidelines.
- Assist in ordering construction materials and equipment.
- Prepare operational reports and assist with project cost estimates as needed.
- Prepare and package hazardous waste for proper processing or disposal.
- Conduct site inspections to identify conditions or necessary repairs.
- Support compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor, in alignment with the position's responsibilities, may also be required to support the team and business objectives
Qualification, Competencies and Requirements
- WORK ELIGIBILITY: Must be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.
- AGE: Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- RESIDENCY: Must have resided in Guam for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years prior to entry into the program. A Mayor’s Verification of Residency is required upon hire.
- COMMITMENT: Must be able to attend a minimum of two (2) classes per week, as specified by the apprenticeship program standards, while maintaining a full-time (40-hour) work schedule with PFM.

Work Environment
- Work outside in various conditions including heat, humidity, rain, dust, noise and cold
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Must be willing to work between multiple worksites
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, hourly position. Hours of Operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. However, due to operational needs, may be required to work before or after normal hours of operations, on weekends or holidays.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
