Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to take ownership of electrical controls systems for complex, custom-built machinery. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on engineering environment and enjoys seeing projects through from concept to commissioning.

You’ll play a key role in designing, programming, troubleshooting, and optimizing control systems while collaborating closely with mechanical engineers, build teams, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical control systems for custom machinery and automation equipment
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems
  • Lead controls integration from concept through build, test, and installation
  • Support machine startup, commissioning, and debugging (both in-house and at customer sites)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers when needed
  • Assist with system improvements, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in controls engineering within a manufacturing or machinery environment
  • Strong experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
  • Experience with HMI development and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and system layouts
  • Experience supporting machine build, integration, and commissioning
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with custom machinery or automated systems
  • Motion control and servo systems experience
  • Exposure to robotics or advanced automation
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for commissioning and support
