Job Description

Amarillo United Methodist Church seeking a welcoming and detail-oriented Church Secretary to support the ministry and daily operations of the church office. This role is often the first point of contact for congregation members, visitors, and the community, and plays a key part in creating a warm professional church environment. Work Schedule Monday-Thursday 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (26 hours a week.

Core Skills and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate hospitality by greeting visitors and assisting congregation members.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally by answering, screening, and routing phone
  • calls and emails.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Workspace (Gmail and Calendar) and Canva.
  • Maintains accurate calendars, files, attendance, and membership databases.
  • Supports pastoral and ministry staff with scheduling, coordination, and routine
  • communication.
  • Manages confidential financial records and contributions.
  • Manages office supplies, mail, copier equipment, and basic office systems.
  • Coordinates background checks and require documentation for staff or volunteers.
  • Works independently while contributing positively to a faith-based team environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required, college coursework or degree preferred.
  • Previous church/nonprofit office experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.
  • Excellent people skills and a servant-hearted approach to work
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet background check and bonding requirements.
