Safe Gas Systems is seeking a skilled, motivated and detail-oriented entry level Instrument Technician specializing in Gas Detection and Control Systems to join our technical team. This is a level 1 position on a a team of industry leading experts, with amazing growth potential. This challenging and rewarding position requires mechanical aptitude, precision, and an unwavering commitment to safety. As an Instrument Technician, you will be responsible for assisting with the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of sophisticated gas detection and monitoring systems that protect personnel and facilities from hazardous gas exposures across industrial, healthcare, commercial, and research environments.

Whether working in industrial facilities, confined spaces, or high-risk environments, your role will directly contribute to critical safety operations across multiple industries, ensuring that gas detection systems function reliably to protect end users and maintain operational.

Key Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will assist high level technicians with the following tasks on a diverse range of projects. Some travel for work will be required from time to time.
- System Installation and Configuration:

- Install, configure, and commission fixed and portable gas detection systems, including single-gas and multi-gas monitor
- Connect gas detectors to control systems and emergency shutdown devices
- Calibration and Maintenance: Perform routine calibration of gas detectors using certified calibration gases in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards

- Conduct bump testing and functional testing of gas detection equipment to verify sensor response and alarm functionality
- Execute preventive maintenance schedules on fixed and portable gas detection systems, including sensor replacement, flow adjustments, and filter changes
- Maintain detailed calibration records and documentation to ensure regulatory compliance Troubleshooting and Repair:
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning gas detection equipment, including sensor failures, communication issues, and power supply problems
- Replace defective components such as sensors, transmitters, control modules, and communication devices
- Perform electrical and electronic repairs on gas monitoring equipment using appropriate tools and test equipment Safety Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all gas detection systems comply with OSHA, NFPA, API, IFC, CGA and other relevant safety standards
- Maintain comprehensive maintenance logs, calibration certificates, and inspection records
- Support safety audits and regulatory inspections by providing technical documentation and system performance data
- Understand, follow and enforce safety protocols during all maintenance and installation activities
- Emergency Response and Support:

- Respond to gas detection system alarms and emergency conditions
- Participate in emergency response training and safety drills
- Required Qualifications Education and Experience:

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Two-year technical degree in instrumentation technology, electronics, or related field preferred
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with instrumentation and control systems
- Previous experience with gas detection systems, industrial automation, or process control systems highly desirable
- Required Skills:

- Basic understanding of AC and DC electricity/electrical circuits
- Basic understanding of digital multi meters for troubleshooting
- Ability to install electrical conduit and properly pull wires/cables
- Ability to properly terminate wires in a variety of terminal blocks/connectors
- Ability to use power tools and hand tools
- Ability to lift heavy packages regularly
- Ability to use ladders and lifts safely
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals
- Ability to accurately complete technical documentation
- Beneficial Technical Skills:

- Proficiency in calibration procedures for various gas detection technologies (catalytic bead, infrared, electrochemical, photoionization) or similar instrumentation
- Knowledge of electrical systems, pneumatic systems, and electronic instrumentation
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial communication protocols
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and data acquisition systems
- Beneficial Safety Knowledge:

- Comprehensive understanding of gas hazards including H2S, CO, LEL, oxygen deficiency, and toxic gases
- Knowledge of OSHA confined space entry procedures and atmospheric testing requirements
- Understanding of NFPA codes and standards related to gas detection and hazardous locations
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record required
