Virtual Sign Language Interpreter K12 Education (New York)
Job Summary:
VocoVision is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services for K12 students in New York public schools. This role is crucial in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equal access to instruction and school participation within a virtual learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide real-time ASL interpretation during virtual classroom instruction, online lessons, and school events.

Interpret spoken communication from teachers and peers into ASL and voice student responses as needed.

Work collaboratively with educators, special education teams, and school staff to support student communication needs.

Uphold confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.

Participate in IEP meetings to offer guidance on communication access and accommodations.

Utilize secure, FERPA-compliant platforms for virtual service delivery.

Complete necessary documentation, including logs and reports, following district or agency guidelines.
Qualifications:
Required:

Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.

Current New York interpreter license/certification or eligibility to obtain one.

High school diploma or GED and completion of an interpreter training program.

RID certification or equivalent (e.g., EIPA score of 3.5 or higher).

Proficiency with virtual communication platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams.

Reliable high-speed internet and a professional remote work setup.
Preferred:

Experience interpreting in K12 educational settings.

Strong understanding of child development and educational terminology.

Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
Work Environment:
This is a fully virtual position. Candidates must have a dedicated, quiet home workspace and a stable internet connection. All services are delivered through secure video conferencing tools.
