Job DescriptionSalary:

JOB PURPOSE:

Behavioral Health Technicians are mental health employees who provide hands-on care to individuals with varying degrees of mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders. BHTs perform a vital, front-line function as they observe, monitor and interact with patients. The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for providing services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse problems.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist patients in articulating personal goals for recovery.
  • Accompany patient on outings/appointments, always keeping them in line of sight.
  • Provide direct one-on-one therapeutic interventions under the direction of their supervisor.
  • Monitors all patients through the treatment experience, keeping patients in line of sight in the unit and regularly checking on patients in bedrooms or other areas.
  • Diffusing situations where patients may be escalating or expressing concerns.
  • Providing emotional support to patients.
  • Alerting medical professionals to intervene in emergencies or changes in behavior.
  • Assist patients in determining their treatment objectives.
  • Teaches & supports acquisition and utilization of skills needed to facilitate individual recovery.
  • Observes patients to detect behavior patterns and reports observations to medical staff.
  • Promotes knowledge of available service options and choices.
  • Observes the progress patients make toward meeting their objectives.
  • Co-Facilitates groups with counselors if there are over 12 residents in group.
  • Works as a welcome greeter at the door for new residents.
  • Assists in graduation bios, photos, and ceremony.
  • Assists and supports patients in day-to-day activities including, but not limited to, waking routines, morning hygiene, meals, group therapy, nighttime routine, evening hygiene, observations, and free time.
  • Monitors smoke breaks, phone calls and visitation.
  • Maintain therapeutic records and data necessary in EMR to monitor progress.
  • Attends weekly supervision meeting.
  • Surveys Residents for Patient satisfaction
  • Maintains Daily Group Therapy Board.
  • Monitors Medication administration when needed to prevent diversion.
  • Maintains Cleanliness of workspace.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • CPR/BLS Certification required.
  • Must complete Ohio Peer Recovery Support Specialist within 1 year of hire.


REQUIRED SKILLS OR ABILITIES:

Required Skills for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to interact with a multi-disciplinary team to assist in facets of the recovery program relating to physical health.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the treatment team to ensure the safety of the client.
  • Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes and assumption of responsibilities not delineated in the job description which is related to work as a member of an addiction treatment team.
  • Attention to detail and organization.
  • Computer literate with experience in a Windows environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize work and work-related responsibilities.
