Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse to support a high-acuity complex care unit. This unit provides care for medical patients, orthopedic overflow, and long-term complex cases. The RN must be comfortable managing higher patient ratios, floating within skillset, and functioning in a fast-paced tertiary care environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care to MS/Tele patients with complex medical and orthopedic needs.

• Manage telemetry monitoring and respond appropriately to cardiac rhythm changes.

• Administer medications, blood products, and IV therapies per protocol.

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document care accurately in the EMR.

• Utilize Rapid Response and Code Team protocols as needed.

• Provide care for patients with pacemakers (temporary and permanent).

• Manage central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, and perform phlebotomy as required.

• Deliver respiratory support including HFNC, oxygen devices, and tracheostomy care.

• Provide wound care including wound vac management.

• Care for post-operative orthopedic and trauma patients, including total joint replacements.

• Float to other units within scope of practice as needed.

• Support charge responsibilities as required.

Required Skills & Clinical Experience

• Medical Surgical / Telemetry nursing

• Telemetry monitoring (on-unit)

• Rapid Response and Code Team participation

• Pacemaker management (temporary and permanent)

• Feeding tube care and management

• Blood product administration

• Central line and PICC line care/management

• Peripheral IV insertion and maintenance

• Phlebotomy

• Heparin protocols

• Orthopedic trauma and total joint replacements

• Surgical drain management

• Respiratory support: HFNC, nasal cannula, face masks, portable oxygen

• Tracheostomy care and management

• Isolation precautions

• Wound care and wound vac management

Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license (must be in hand – no exceptions)

• Minimum 2 years of recent MS/Tele experience

• Previous charge nurse experience required

• Experience managing patient ratios of 1:6

• Ability to safely manage 1:5–1:7 MedSurg patient ratios

• BLS certification required

• EPIC charting proficiency required

• Must be willing to float within skillset

• Weekend coverage required (every other weekend)

• Local candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius
