The Town of Hanover Parks and Recreation Department isseekingan enthusiastic and creative Out of School Time Program Specialist to help deliver engaging programs for youth and preschool-aged children. This role combines outdoor education, recreation, and youthdevelopmenthelping children explore, learn, and grow through hands-on activities and structured programming in a safe and supportive environment.

This position performs specialized duties related to the departments Out of School Time programs, including coordinating youth and preschool programming and supporting structured outdoor education and recreational activities.
Successful performance contributes to the delivery of high-quality programs that support youth development and enhance the quality of life for families in the Hanover community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate youth and preschool programming, including structured outdoor education and recreational activities
- Develop curriculum and thematic lesson plans for program participants
- Coordinate the safe arrival and departure of children from program activities
- Ensure all activitiescomply withdepartmental safety policies and procedures
- Coordinate the use, maintenance, and storage of outdoor sports and recreation equipment
- Communicate program policies, schedules, and expectations with parents and guardians
- Respond to and resolve program concerns or issues
- Support the overall operation and success of Out of School Time programs
- Perform related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of principles and practices of childrens recreational programming
- Knowledge of relevant Town and departmental policies and procedures
- Skill in planning and organizing age-appropriate outdoor educational and recreational activities
- Skill in building positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to model a positive attitude and collaborative work style
- Skill in written communication and basic computer applications
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Work involves intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping
- Frequent lifting of light objects and occasional lifting of heavier equipment
- Work performed in both indoor and outdoor settings
- Outdoor work may occur in cold or inclement weather
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One to two years of relevant experience working with youth programming, which may include internships or apprenticeships
- Background ordemonstratedexperience in outdoor educational or recreational programming for school-age children
- Basic writing and computational skills
Hours of Work:
- The standard workday and workweek for OST Staff varies depending ontimeof year.
- KAST: Monday Friday 9:15am - 5:45pm.
i.When not scheduled programresponsibilitiesthe standard workday is 8:15am - 4:45pm.
- When Camps are running the OST schedule is
i.Monday Friday 4 days per week: 8:00am - 5:00pm
ii.1 day per week: 8am - 2:30pm. Short day rotates among OST Staff.
