Mission Statement:
Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency will act as a stepping stone to create stronger communities where families with low incomes have opportunities to connect, grow, and maintain dignity.
Summary:
A Substitute assists in the day-to-day operation of a Head Start center in various capacities, including but not limited to classroom, food service, or family service assistance.
Specific Job Duties:
- Assist in planning daily lessons and activities. Assume major classroom responsibilities as requested and as expertise is gained.
- Keep parents informed through conferences, letters, newsletters, anecdotal notes, and telephone calls.
- Assist with preparation and cleanup of all meals; eat meals with the children.
- Assist in all cleaning duties of both the classroom and the center as requested or required.
- Provide food service assistance in the absence of the Food Service Technician.
- Assist with parent meetings or trainings.
- Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.
- Attend and participate in meetings, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training, and conferences as assigned. This includes local, state, regional, and national groups, as well as pre-service and in-service training.
- Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency and submit necessary documents to the Finance Department.
- Comply with all Head Start Performance Standards, Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and Mid-Cumberland Head Start Policies and Procedures, and other applicable Early Childhood Standards such as DHS Licensing Standards and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; CDA credential preferred.
Experience: Previous work with children ages 0-5.
