Location - Fullerton, CA

Duration: 13 Weeks

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive care for obstetric patients in a busy acute care hospital setting. Candidates must possess strong triage skills and be able to independently perform sterile vaginal examinations without supervision.

Schedule & Staffing

  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend minimum; may exceed based on unit needs
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Required to Mother/Baby unit as needed
  • Block Scheduling: Considered at manager discretion
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off one shift per two-week pay period

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN License (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience preferred
  • 1.5 years recent L&D experience is a hard stop
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Certifications

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS
  • NRP
  • AWHONN Advanced Certification (Required – Hard Stop)

Hard Stop Requirements

  • Must have passed AWHONN Advanced
  • Must have expert Labor & Delivery experience
  • Must independently perform Sterile Vaginal Exams (SVE) without supervision
  • Must have Labor & Delivery triage experience
  • EPIC experience required

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, monitor, and care for laboring patients throughout the childbirth process
  • Perform independent sterile vaginal examinations and triage assessments
  • Monitor fetal heart tracings and maternal status
  • Collaborate with obstetric providers to develop and implement care plans
  • Provide labor support, education, and advocacy for patients and families
  • Assist with emergency obstetric situations as needed
  • Float to Mother/Baby unit when required
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
