The Accountant will be responsible for managing the full spectrum of accounting and bookkeeping functions for our construction firm. This role involves overseeing accounts receivable and payable, cost coding invoices to specific jobs, preparing payment applications (pay apps), and ensuring timely collections. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Experience with Foundation Software is preferred, but we value quick learners who can adapt rapidly to our systems. The Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining financial integrity and supporting the organization’s financial goals.

Duties

  • Perform all general accounting and bookkeeping duties, including maintaining accurate financial records and preparing financial statements.
  • Manage accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), including processing invoices, payments, and reconciliations.
  • Cost code all AP invoices to appropriate jobs/projects for accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit payment applications (pay apps) to clients and subcontractors.
  • Follow up on collections for pay apps and outstanding AR to ensure timely cash flow.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and other financial accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other team members to provide financial insights and support job costing.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Adapt to and utilize Foundation Software for all accounting tasks; training will be provided if needed.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP standards.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis to support financial planning.
  • Prepare regulatory reports and assist with audits to maintain transparency and accountability.
  • Mentor junior staff members in accounting practices and principles.
  • Assist with other office task including HR and payroll.

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software; experience with Foundation Software is a plus but not required—must be a quick learner willing to adopt new systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Proven experience in construction accounting
  • Strong knowledge of financial concepts including accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, and technical accounting.
  • Experience with payroll processing and tax-related responsibilities is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data effectively.
