Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and mechanically skilled Field Environmental Technician to support Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities at groundwater treatment facilities. This role primarily assists the plant electrician while also performing hands-on mechanical maintenance, system monitoring, and field support tasks. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical aptitude, basic electrical awareness, and a proactive, team-oriented approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the plant electrician with maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Perform daily O&M activities at groundwater treatment plants and related facilities
- Support operation and maintenance of treatment systems including pumps, valves, piping, filtration units, and instrumentation
- Conduct mechanical repairs such as pump rebuilds, lubrication, component replacement, and system cleaning
- Troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues across plant equipment
- Perform routine site inspections and monitor system performance
- Collect and document operational data accurately
- Identify system deficiencies and communicate repair needs to supervisors
- Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols when working around energized equipment and control systems
- Assist with additional field activities including equipment operation, facility maintenance, and sampling support as needed
- Learn and utilize PLC/SCADA systems (prior experience is a plus but not required)
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and safety practices
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in a field/industrial setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in water or wastewater treatment operations
- Familiarity with pumps, motors, and industrial equipment
- Exposure to PLC and SCADA systems
- HAZWOPER and/or Confined Space Entry training (preferred, not required)
