Position Description

Job Title: Lead Job Coach

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Status: Part-time; 10 month position during the school year

Openings: One

Reporting Functions: Reports to Principal, Transition Coordinator, Classroom Teacher

Job Function: Assist secondary students in working toward independence and obtaining job skills in one-to-one situations and small groups within the school and at community work sites. Work closely with students to strengthen their skills and develop new ones based on each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Document student progress and work with Transition Coordinator to ensure compliance with IEPs. Time will be split between the classroom and the community. Complete trimester progress reports and create monthly work schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare transition instructions and materials under the direction of the transition coordinator.

  • Provide additional secondary classroom support under the guidance of the classroom teacher.

  • Complete trimester progress reports and create monthly work schedules.

  • Learn and employ individual communication strategies, behavioral, and medical protocols.

  • Report to the classroom teacher job site progress to be incorporated into the IEPs.

  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Build positive relationships in the community, at the job sites and within the John Paul II

  • Possess a valid PA driver's license to transport students to and from external job sites.

  • Escort the students from on and off the bus; parent pickup/drop off, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned by the transition coordinator, classroom teacher and Principal.

  • The candidate will work 29 hours a week during the school year.

Educational Requirements:

  • Experience in special education is a plus, but a minimum high school diploma is required.

Other Requirements:

  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of how to navigate through sensitive matters and the ability to support and teach students with intellectual, physical, and psychological disabilities.

  • Possess the ability to work independently, implement plans, demonstrate flexibility, and maintain confidentiality regarding consumer/Program activities.

  • Required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment.

  • Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances, with a diversity of individuals.

  • Background clearances required (Child Abuse, PA Criminal Check, Fingerprinting, Mandated Reporter Training, and Protecting God's Children Training).

  • Have a valid driver's license and clean driving record to transport individuals to community activities in program vehicles.

Physical Demands: Sitting and standing for extended periods of time. May need to safely move or lift children weighing up to 100 lbs. from wheelchairs to tables or desks. Bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, and pushing or pulling to assist students is also required. May reach overhead as well as above shoulders and horizontally. Dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate activities or run medical and instructional equipment is required as is hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations, hear in a noisy environment, and locate the source of a sound. Reading a variety of materials and monitoring student activities is required. Possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.

Working Conditions: This a part-time school year position that will work Monday-Friday: 8:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. in a variety of settings including classrooms and community settings. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal school day to attend school-related events.
