We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician to provide clinical support for rodent healthcare. This role involves performing sick checks, administering anesthesia and analgesia, conducting euthanasia, and assisting in surgeries. The technician will coordinate and assist with the transfer of rodents within and between facilities, perform health surveillance sampling, and conduct Post Approval Monitoring of housing and procedure rooms. Additionally, the role includes assisting with training programs for animal husbandry staff and research staff utilizing animals and pursuing continuing education in lab animal medicine and managerial/leadership courses.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical support for rodent healthcare, including sick checks, anesthesia, analgesia, euthanasia, and surgery.
- Coordinate and assist with the transfer of rodents within and between facilities.
- Perform health surveillance sampling.
- Conduct Post Approval Monitoring of housing and procedure rooms.
- Assist with training programs for animal husbandry and research staff.
- Pursue continuing education in lab animal medicine and managerial/leadership courses.
- Prepare and present a presentation at one monthly Veterinary Services seminar per year.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in animal research, veterinary practices, and lab animal handling.
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in a science-related field.
- Previous clinical or research experience with animals, especially mice, including health checks, euthanasia, and surgery.
- Experience with anesthesia, analgesia, and phlebotomy in rodents.
- Knowledge of applicable regulations regarding standards of animal care and use in a research environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- AALAS certification at the LAT level is desirable.
- Strong background in animal science and laboratory techniques.
Work Environment
The position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with occasional holiday work as needed.

This is a Contract position based out of Tarrytown, New York
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
