Join our team as a General Production Worker in a dynamic lumber mill environment. Your role will involve taking wood off the machine, inspecting it for defects such as splits, cracks, rot, and holes, and then stacking it on a pallet or cart. You will be responsible for separating good products from the bad ones, ensuring quality control. The job requires flipping boards throughout the day, demanding physical endurance, particularly in the hands and wrists. Expect to handle 10-15,000 feet of boards daily.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect wood for defects and quality assurance.
  • Stack inspected wood on pallets or carts.
  • Separate high-quality products from defective ones.
  • Maintain high productivity levels handling 10-15,000 feet of boards per day.
  • Engage in continuous physical labor, including flipping boards.
  • Perform general labor tasks and maintain cleanliness during downtime.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in a production setting, especially with industrial equipment such as saws and forklifts.
  • Ability to perform fast-paced physical labor.
  • General production and machine operation skills.
  • Inspection and packing expertise.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Saw mill experience is advantageous.
  • Mechanical aptitude for potential machine operation training.
  • Forklift experience is beneficial but not required for this contract.

Work Environment

Work in a saw mill producing wood for pallet building companies. The job involves outdoor work year-round under an open roof, offering cover but exposure to seasonal weather conditions. The environment includes sawdust, requiring safety glasses. The role is physically demanding with repetitive movement, bending, twisting, and handling boards, which are typically light but require frequent moving. The schedule involves working from 7 am to 3 pm on Monday and 4 10-hour shifts from Tuesday to Friday, 7 am to 5 pm.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spokane Valley, Washington.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.66 - $20.50/hr.
