Job SummaryThe Phlebotomist / Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) functions as the primary patient-facing representative for specimen collection services. This role includes performing venipuncture, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and delivering a professional and trustworthy experience for patients. The PSR II adheres to strict procedural guidelines, maintains confidentiality, and consistently demonstrates leadership and process-excellence behaviors.Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection safely and accurately for pediatric, geriatric, and adult patients.
- Explain collection procedures to patients to ensure comfort and confidence.
- Verify patient demographics and signatures post-collection to ensure accurate tube labeling.
- Conduct both forensic and clinical specimen processing following established procedures.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and records.
- Promote a professional, positive, and safe environment.
- Independently manage daily tasks and workflow with minimal supervision.
- Travel to multiple patient service centers or in-office locations with minimal notice as needed.
- Support weekend, holiday, on-call, and overtime requirements based on staffing needs.
- Demonstrate strong customer focus, communication skills, and adaptability to fast-paced environments.
Required Experience
- Three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary draws.
- Minimum 2 years of Patient Service Center experience preferred.
- Customer service background preferred (retail or service environments).
- Strong keyboard and data entry skills.
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred (required only in CA, NV, and WA).
Required Skills
- Excellent phlebotomy technique and patient interaction skills.
- Ability to produce quality, error-free work in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment and minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills
- Strong adaptability to workload changes.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Familiarity with clinical policies, compliance, and safety standards.
Additional Skills
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license (if applicable).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in high-volume settings.
- Demonstrated flexibility, professionalism, and customer focus.
