Job Description

Job Description:
A property and casualty client is seeking a Vice President of Claims. This person will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the claims organization, owning the full claims lifecycle to ensure fair, timely, and cost-effective resolution while maintaining regulatory compliance and strong relationships with agents and insureds. This executive will lead and develop the claims team, evaluate and enhance claims processes, and drive greater internal adjusting capabilities to reduce reliance on external resources. The role also requires strong technology capabilities, including leveraging Guidewire and other advanced tools to optimize efficiency, reduce manual intervention, enhance reporting, and support data-driven decision-making across the claims organization. The role partners closely with underwriting, legal, finance, and reinsurance stakeholders to align claims outcomes with broader business objectives, using data, metrics, and technology to improve efficiency, control loss costs, and inform underwriting strategy. As a key member of the leadership team, the Vice President of Claims will bring strong judgment, negotiation skills, and a continuous improvement mindset to managing complex and high-exposure claims while helping shape the company’s long-term direction. This is a retained search.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable the entire claims organization, including managers, adjusters, and support staff. Build internal adjusting capabilities through training and coaching, foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement, and ensure the team has the expertise to handle increasingly complex and high-exposure claims.

  • Own the end-to-end claims lifecycle and continuously evaluate and enhance claims strategies, policies and workflows. Identify opportunities to reduce loss costs, improve cycle times and better manage high-limit exposures, including restructuring processes to reduce reliance on external adjusters and improve subrogation outcomes.

  • Champion the effective use of technology, including Guidewire InsuranceNow and emerging AI tools, to optimize efficiency, reduce manual intervention, and improve consistency and transparency in claims handling. Identify and implement solutions that enhance internal capabilities, streamline reporting and support data-driven decision-making while maintaining appropriate controls.

  • Monitor claims KPIs and trends to drive informed decision-making and operational improvements. Translate claims insights into actionable feedback for underwriting, influencing policy language, risk selection and pricing decisions. Use data to balance fair claims handling with profitability and long-term portfolio performance.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance, strong internal controls and adherence to industry best practices. Manage vendor relationships (TPAs, legal counsel, investigators, reinsurers) for quality and cost effectiveness, represent the company on complex or litigated claims, and actively contribute as a collaborative member of the executive leadership team.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of progressive property and casualty claims experience, including 5+ years in senior leadership

  • Deep knowledge of specialty lines such as garage liability, homeowners or dwelling fire (preferred)

  • Proven track record leading high-performing teams and managing organizational change in a growing company

  • Experience handling high-limit liability claims (up to $1M for auto liability) and complex or litigated cases

  • Familiarity with technology utilization, including Guidewire InsuranceNow or similar claims management systems, and technology-based process improvement

  • Experience scaling operations, expanding product lines and managing geographically dispersed teams

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Advanced degree or CPCU/AIC designation (preferred)
