Business Development Representative (Tree Service / Stump Grinding)
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Metro Detroit
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced business development professional with a background in the tree service or landscaping industry. This role is designed for someone who can step in with minimal training and begin producing quickly. The primary focus is driving profitable revenue growth through disciplined follow-up, high conversion rates, and long-term relationship building. This is a performance-driven position supporting the expansion of the company. It is a critical role to scale the company.
Key Responsibilities
• Close inbound residential and light commercial tree service work
• Conduct timely and consistent follow-up on estimates to drive conversions
• Maintain a minimum close rate as the primary individual performance metric
• Perform door-to-door outreach when appropriate (e.g., storm damage, visible tree issues)
• Ramp up and produce independently within 30 days
• Work 1–2 mandatory Saturdays per month during peak summer months
• Build and maintain referral relationships with landscapers, property managers, builders, and local businesses
• Attend networking events and industry functions to generate long-term referral opportunities
• Prioritize phone calls and direct client communication to build trust and close work

• CRM: Jobber (all quoting, job costing, and tracking)
• Commission paid on profitably bid jobs only
• Access to two full-time virtual assistants for inbound calls, scheduling, and routing
• Direct client phone communication is strongly preferred for relationship building
Seasonality & Workload
• Business is seasonal with slower periods in January and February
• Winter months are used for training, client retargeting, networking, and account development
• Time off during slower periods is expected as workload allows
Service Focus
Primary services focus on residential tree work. Additional services include:
• Tree planting
• Trimming services
• Christmas light installation
• Residential snow removal
• Selective commercial snow services
Vehicle & Equipment
• Company vehicle provided
• Company expense account
Compensation – Year One
• Base salary: $45,000
• Commission based on revenue
• Commission paid biweekly
• Target total compensation: ~$101,000 in year one
• $15,000 bonus for stretch goal
• Compensation model will increase as company grows and multiple ways for someone to make even more money in year one and beyond
