Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an ADTU setting, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is an Acute Decision and Treatment Unit (ADTU) within a 207-licensed-bed hospital that is a designated Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center (no trauma designation, non-teaching)
- The ADTU is a 12-bed unit serving as a Med/Tele overflow area supporting all inpatient units and ED holding, with common diagnoses including CHF, COPD, chest pain workup, stroke symptoms, and respiratory conditions
- Patient ratios are 1:5-6 RN-to-patient (up to 1:7-8 during critical surge), with CNA support at 1:6-12
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back responsibilities
- Floating is required to all units within scope at the assigned facility, as well as to other facilities within the assigned region as needed — candidates unwilling to float to regional facilities should not apply
- EMR is Epic; IV pumps are Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitors are Philips
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficient general Med/Tele skillset required, including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, Flexiseals, Foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
- Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF required
- Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the last year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Department support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, a Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy, an IV/VAT Team (11 AM–7 PM and 11 PM–7 AM), Respiratory Therapy (24/7), and Hospitalist coverage (24/7)
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
- Navy scrubs are required
- Free parking is available
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
