Job DescriptionPosition Summary
The Senior Manager of Professional Development is responsible for initiating and managing programs that provide structured learning to the HVAC&R market. These programs may include instructor-led courses in both classroom and online settings; computer-based instruction, both instructor-led and on-demand; and textbook publications for self-instruction. The manager's efforts should result in the delivery of high-quality educational content that meets scheduling and fiscal objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Identify market needs for education/professional development, including courses and programs in support of ASHRAE's certification programs.
- Oversee the development and presentation of content for ASHRAE Learning Institute courses and programs, including the development of and communication of value propositions for use in marketing and promotion.
- Aggressively pursue revenue-generating opportunities to increase net income for educational courses and programs, including the tracking of promotional efforts conducted by marketing staff.
- Investigate options for content development and specialized delivery mechanisms and contract with vendors for these services.
- Evaluate the success of presentations and courses and make improvements to processes and procedures as appropriate.
- Cooperate with the Certification Section in the development of systems for the effective maintenance and auditing of professional development hours/continuing education units.
- Develop and promote courses and programs to support ASHRAE certification efforts to assist individuals in preparing for and maintaining ASHRAE certifications.
- Establish budget and fiscal objectives for professional development programs and educational products and monitor fiscal performance.
- Interact with staff in other departments and sections – such as special publications, publishing services, electronic communications, marketing, public relations, customer service, accounting, and meetings – to execute product delivery and product promotion.
- Supervise, mentor, and motivate assigned staff, ensuring that Society policies are followed and objectives as determined by the Department Director are achieved.
- Communicate with and provide support to ASHRAE's Training and Development Committee.
- Undertake other projects assigned by the Department Director.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating continuing education programs
- Must be skilled in:
- needs assessment
- program development
- meeting planning
- electronic communication and product delivery
- fiscal management
- staff supervision
- Minimum 3 years' experience in association management.
