RN Dialysis (Chronic Hemodialysis)
Purpose & Scope:
Responsible for delivering and coordinating high-quality patient care for individuals undergoing hemodialysis. This role includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of patient care, along with collaboration across the interdisciplinary team to improve outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform patient assessments before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment
- Monitor patient condition and adjust care plans as needed
- Administer medications per physician orders and protocols
- Provide patient and family education on treatment plans and care
- Collaborate with RNs, LPNs, PCTs, and interdisciplinary team members
- Ensure safe and effective dialysis treatment delivery
- Respond to medical emergencies as needed
- Support staff training, orientation, and ongoing education
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with policies
- Coordinate lab collections and ensure proper processing
- Promote patient awareness of transplant and treatment options
Requirements:
- Active RN license (state-specific or compact)
- BLS/CPR certification
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- 1+ year of nephrology nursing experience (within last 2 years)
- Chronic hemodialysis experience required
Preferred / Additional:
- Experience in acute or chronic dialysis settings
- Ability to lead or supervise clinical staff (after training requirements met)
Work Environment:
- Direct patient care setting (dialysis clinic/hospital)
- Requires standing, lifting, and assisting patients
- Exposure to clinical/medical environments
- May involve travel to training or other facilities
