Hourly Rate: $25 – $28
Location: Washington, D.C. Office
Work Model: Hybrid — In-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; remote Monday and Friday
The Government Relations intern will assist with the Government Relations team’s day-to-day functions and gain hands-on experience in how Congress operates, how NRF advocates on our top policy issues, and how we engage with members of Congress and their staffs.
Essential Functions
- Track and research legislative developments, federal and state policy issues, and government affairs initiatives
- Track, schedule and participate in organizing legislative visits
- Shadow NRF policy experts to Capitol Hill meetings and committee meetings
- Assist with the coordination of meetings, conferences, and events, including logistics planning, preparing materials, and compiling notes
- Support the planning and execution of NRF’s premier advocacy event
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current rising junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science or related field
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently with limited supervision
- High level of professionalism
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior internship or work experience in government, public policy, or advocacy
- Familiarity with the legislative process
- Strong interpersonal skills and intellectual curiosity
