In this role, there is the opportunity to-

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow efficiently.
  • Accompany patients to exam or procedure rooms.
  • Assist patients with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation.
  • Collect patient history and vital signs; perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Relay provider instructions to patients and families clearly.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, level-one labs, and other clinic procedures per protocol.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information accurately.
  • Administer injectable medications and vaccines under physician supervision.
  • Answer phone calls and provide accurate information, including patient education as directed.
  • Obtain lab and imaging reports, hospital notes, and referral information as needed.
  • Complete forms and requisitions; schedule appointments and verify insurance and demographics.
  • Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed correctly.
  • Send and receive medical records in compliance with HIPAA and applicable regulations.
  • Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments according to department protocol.
  • Clean exam rooms and equipment between patients and document maintenance tasks.
  • Manage supply inventory and restock exam and procedure rooms as needed.
  • Comply with OSHA, CLIA, and Department of Health regulations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all medical records and sensitive information.
  • Follow all UPMC policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

Preferred:

  • Prior Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or other relevant healthcare experience.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
