Job Summary
The Sales Account Manager is responsible for providing best-in-class service to customers while managing the full sales process from order initiation through delivery. This role utilizes strong plant knowledge, attention to detail, and proactive communication to ensure customer needs are met and projects are completed successfully.
Sales Account Managers build strong customer relationships, anticipate customer needs, and provide solutions that support customer success. This role manages estimates, inventory inquiries, order processing, delivery coordination, and customer communication while collaborating closely with internal teams to ensure efficient and accurate order fulfillment.
Essential Functions
- Provide professional, responsive customer service across all customer interactions and transactions.
- Develop strong customer relationships and anticipate customer needs.
- Respond promptly to customer questions regarding inventory availability, product specifications, and estimates.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of nursery inventory, product performance, product mix, and product objectives.
- Prepare estimates and assist customers with plant selection and order planning.
- Offer substitutions or alternative solutions when requested inventory is unavailable.
- Manage customer orders from initiation through completion, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Process orders and payments accurately and ensure timely invoicing of all sales activity.
- Coordinate delivery scheduling and order fulfillment with Dispatch and other operational departments.
- Communicate proactively with customers throughout the order process.
- Collaborate effectively with internal departments including Dispatch, Purchasing, Inventory, Customer Service, and Yard Operations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with company initiatives including physical inventories, sales meetings, and marketing activities.
- Provide timely feedback and communication to other sales representatives, departments, and management.
- Assist in representing Devil Mountain at industry trade events when requested.
- Perform other duties and assist with company projects as assigned.
Experience & Other Requirements
Required
- Knowledge of plants and nursery products or experience in the landscape maintenance industry.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and processes simultaneously.
- Strong customer service skills and commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Professionalism, integrity, and strong work ethic.
- Sales and customer service experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business systems such as point-of-sale or inventory management software.
Preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a nursery, landscape, or related industry.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This is an in-office position based within an active nursery environment. Remote work is not available for this role.
Work conditions include both office-based work and regular interaction within nursery yard areas where outdoor weather conditions and uneven ground surfaces may be present.
Physical requirements include:
- Sitting or standing for extended periods while working at a computer workstation.
- Extensive typing, 10-key use, and frequent use of hands and fingers.
- Occasional walking through nursery yard areas.
- Lifting up to 20 lbs. approximately 20% of the time.
