Job Overview
As an Architectural Designer at Samaha, you will play an essential role in shaping the built environment through thoughtful design, precise documentation, and collaborative project execution. You will assist in transforming conceptual ideas into fully developed architectural solutions, working across various project phases, including schematic design, design development, and construction documentation. This position offers the opportunity to grow as a designer while making meaningful contributions to innovative, high-quality architecture.
You will work closely with senior team members to develop drawing sets, coordinate with consultants, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. A strong design sensibility, attention to technical detail, and proactive communication are essential to success in this role.
Description of Employment
1. Design Development
- Assist in translating conceptual ideas into schematic and detailed design solutions.
- Contribute to iterative design studies, layout planning, and visual representation of architectural intent.
2. Technical Documentation
- Produce and refine accurate drawings and project documents from design through construction phases.
- Support the preparation of coordinated drawing sets, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
3. Project Coordination
- Collaborate with consultants and internal team members to align technical and design information.
- Track revisions and integrate feedback from multiple disciplines into project documentation.
4. Code and Standards Compliance
- Conduct preliminary research related to zoning, accessibility, and building code requirements.
- Apply regulatory knowledge to support the development and documentation of compliant designs.
5. Construction Support
- Assist in reviewing contractor submittals, responding to field inquiries, and documenting changes.
- Participate in site visits to observe progress, verify conditions, and support the execution of design intent.
6. Workflow & Productivity
- Maintain organized digital project files and drawing standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to efficient production schedules by prioritizing tasks and meeting internal deadlines.
7. Professional Growth & Team Contribution
- Engage in ongoing learning to deepen architectural knowledge and improve professional competencies.
- Support a collaborative studio environment through idea sharing, design critique, and mutual accountability.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or a related field
- 2–5 years of professional experience in an architectural or design studio environment
- Strong design sensibility with the ability to develop ideas from concept through construction documentation
- Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD and related drafting tools, with the ability to produce precise, detailed construction drawings
- Understanding of building codes, zoning regulations, and accessibility requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work full-time in person at our Los Angeles studio (Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM)
Preferred:
- Experience with residential, mixed-use, or commercial architecture projects
- Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory submittals
- Experience coordinating with consultants and reviewing multidisciplinary drawing sets
- Interest in sustainable design principles and energy-efficient construction strategies
- Strong visual presentation skills, including diagrams and formatted portfolios
- Proficiency in digital workflows, including file management, plotting standards, and drawing template customization
- Familiarity with 3D modeling or BIM tools and the ability to integrate them into design and documentation processes
Compensation & Growth
- Starting salary: $70,000 - $80,000 annually
- Opportunities for performance-based raises and advancement within the studio
- Exposure to all phases of design and development with mentorship from senior leadership
- Potential to grow into Project Architect or Project Manager roles over time
