HCN Area Manager - Memphis Plant
The HCN Area Manager has the overall responsibility and accountability to provide leadership and direction for the hydrogen cyanide manufacturing unit in Memphis, TN. The HCN unit operations includes HCN production, aminonitriles production, HCN tank farm, and trade waste.
The position interfaces with the sodium cyanide area and other customers for coordination of production schedules and meeting customer needs. Accountable for establishing and meeting fixed cost objectives and other operations KPIs. The position has 9-10 direct reports, including the HCN Process Manager, Trade Waste Process Manager, Operations Specialist, Maintenance Coordinators, and Shift Supervisors who supervise 30-40 operators.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Sets expectations, holds people accountable for compliance to our core values (EHS/PSM, Ethics & Respect for People) and models the appropriate behavior
- Accountable for the Management of Change processes for the HCN manufacturing unit and personnel
- Develops short, mid, and long-term area plans, including improvement activities, and organize team members to execute the plans, ensuring availability of resources
- Communication and execution of business objectives, priorities, and progress across the Area
- Reviews work throughout area to ensure priorities and target dates are met
- Interfaces with other site leaders, e.g., peer Area Managers, Technical and Maintenance leaders, etc. on key matters related to the Area
- Maintains adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads within area
- Reviews financial activity reports and statements to determine progress and status in attaining Areas costs (fixed & plant related variable) and capital objectives, making adjustments, corrections and plans in accordance with current conditions and business requirements
- Manages employee and labor relations within the Area
- Encourages employees engagement and fosters empowerment and ownership through leader standard work
- Initiates the awards and recognition process for individuals and/or teams, and celebrates, areas accomplishments
The following is required for this role:
- BS degree in Engineering or equivalent, including substantial prior management experience in a chemical, refining, or pharmaceutical industry
- Strong understanding of chemical process operations
- 8 or more years of experience in management of High Hazard Process (HHP) facilities
- Demonstrated understanding of safety procedures and corporate safety philosophy
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to work with a diverse population of employees and contractors
- Ability to set priorities and provide direction to influence management and broader organization
- Demonstrated strong teamwork, collaboration, and cross-cultural skills

The following is preferred for this role:
- Experience with hydrogen cyanide manufacturing or handling.
- Six Sigma certification
- SAP experience
- Strong understanding of plant costs and general accounting principles
- Power BI/Dashboarding experience
- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Expert
