Job Description

Manufacturing Process Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Process Engineer. In this role, you’ll focus on optimizing manufacturing processes to improve product quality, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in developing, troubleshooting, and enhancing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize manufacturing processes for plastics injection molding and, preferably, rubber molding and extrusion.
  • Set up and validate process parameters, including machine settings, tooling, materials, curing, and die design.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, such as mold design flaws, extrusion defects, material flow problems, and equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, tooling, QA) to support new product launches and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process-related defects (e.g., flash, short shots, dimensional issues).
  • Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, flow diagrams, and SOPs.
  • Select and qualify materials (thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers) based on performance, cost, and application.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Ensure all processes comply with safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and industry standards.
  • Support maintenance teams in the repair and upkeep of molding and extrusion equipment to reduce downtime.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in process engineering within a plastics injection molding manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in rubber molding and extrusion is a plus but not required.
  • In-depth knowledge of injection molding equipment, tooling, and processing parameters.
  • Experience with compression molding, transfer molding, or extrusion is preferred.
  • Strong ability to optimize processes and troubleshoot defects in high-volume production.
  • Familiarity with material behavior (ABS, PC, PP, TPE, silicone rubber, etc.) in molding and extrusion.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CREO); simulation tools like Moldflow are a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with automation and robotics in molding and extrusion.
  • Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9001 or IATF 16949.
  • Familiarity with SPC and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt) is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Full-time, onsite position in a manufacturing facility.

Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 plus bonus, PTO, 401k, Medical, etc.

Required: U.S. Citizenship, Green Card, Permanent Residency
