Job Description

Put your research skills and scientific writing expertise to work in support of national defense.

We’re looking for a PhD or MS-level professional in a hard science, such as physics, electrical engineering, or applied math, who genuinely enjoys complex research and turning deep technical material into clear, high-quality instructional content.

This is for someone who loves being hands-on: reading, analyzing, writing, and building. You’ll work closely with developers and designers to turn your technical knowledge into engaging, simulation-based training for U.S. Navy personnel.

What You'll Work On:

  • Researching Navy systems (e.g., sonar, mission planning, electronic warfare) and mastering how they work
  • Writing and structuring asynchronous STEM learning content from the ground up
  • Contributing to learning maps, outcomes, and assessments
  • Collaborating with coders and designers to build interactive simulations and visuals
  • Supporting curriculum updates and quality improvements based on current science and learner data

🚫 This Role Is Not For You If:

  • You’re focused on leading teams or managing other curriculum designers; this is not a management or oversight role.
  • Your background is in education theory, K–12 instruction, or computer science
  • You’re looking for high-level oversight or administrative work

💡 This Role Is Ideal If:

  • You enjoyed writing your dissertation more than defending it
  • You’re energized by translating technical systems into meaningful instruction
  • You want to be deeply involved in content creation, and ongoing learning
  • You care about real-world impact and contributing to mission-critical education

🎓 Required Background:

PhD (preferred) or MS in:

  • Physics
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Systems Engineering
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Applied Physics or closely related fields

  • Strong writing, analytical, and instructional communication skills
  • Research, teaching, or curriculum development experience
  • U.S. citizenship and Secret clearance eligibility

On-Site Only:

Due to the classified nature of this work, all duties must be performed in a secure SCIF facility in Columbia, MD. While hours are flexible, there are no remote or hybrid options.
