Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A rewarding opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential ASL services within a Special Education Cooperative supporting multiple school districts. This contract position offers placements in elementary school settings with a focus on serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students through comprehensive, collaborative support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver ASL interpreting services to students in a self-contained DHH program, facilitating communication in academic and therapeutic settings including gym, art, music, music therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and English Learner services.
  • Support and collaborate with Deaf staff and a strong team of interpreters to ensure effective communication access throughout the school day.
  • Provide one-on-one interpreting for a preschool student requiring specialized support.
  • Adapt to diverse communication needs throughout the school environment and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

Qualification Highlights:

  • Active Illinois ASL Educator Certification.
  • EIPA score of 3.5 or higher, or registration with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RIC).
  • Proven experience in educational interpreting, especially within DHH programs.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to integrate with multidisciplinary school teams.
  • Commitment to supporting students with diverse communication needs.

Assignment Locations & Schedule:

  • Villa Park, IL (North Elementary School): Full-time, 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. through May 20th, 2026.
  • Hinsdale, IL (Oak Elementary School): Part-time, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. through May 20th, 2026.

This role provides the chance to engage in meaningful educational work within a cooperative environment, enhancing communication access for students across multiple school districts.
