The Assistant Administrator / Nurse has a shared responsibility to the residents of the home as well as the operational and administrative requirements of the Home(s). This individual is responsible for assisting the Administrator in the planning, direction, monitoring, coordination, control, and evaluation of the operations of the respective Home site to assure compliance with Bee Hive Homes quality standards and State and Federal regulations. They must be able to effectively communicate both in written and oral form. The Assistant Administrator / Nurse must participate in routine meetings with the Administrator and/or Owner and facilitate Bee Hive Homes in reaching educated, deliberate decisions. This individual will assist in strategic planning in cooperation with Bee Hive Homes and evaluate operational performance, quality of service, and competitiveness with other area facilities. Nursing responsibilities include communicating with Primary Care Providers and other Health Care Providers to develop the Resident's individualized plan of care in compliance with state regulations, and communicating and monitoring that care plan with all members of the care team. This person must have excellent leadership skills to aid in motivating and developing staff. The Assistant Administrator / Nurse must be a firm decision-maker, taking into consideration the impact of his/her decision on the overall organization.
Essential Functions
The Assistant Administrator / Nurse reports to the Administrator, and is responsible for carrying out the primary duties requested by the Administrator. These essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations in dealing with residents, residents' families, visitors, and co-workers in a professional and confidential manner.
- Initiate and participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities based on the four components of quality: customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, process/system refinement, and financial impact.
- Perform various medical procedures and general nursing duties such as administering medications, obtaining blood pressure, and observing symptoms.
- Make appropriate referrals to qualified medical personnel.
- Demonstrate the ability to embrace and project the values of the facility: safety, trust and respect, teamwork, partnership and service, compassion, integrity, efficiency, and financial responsibility.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the elderly population.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment consistent with OSHA and facility
- Recognize and take action on potentially unsafe acts and conditions.
- Knowledge of emergency equipment (location, use, and maintenance) and assist with codes and fire drills and actual situations.
- Communicate accurate and pertinent information with patient care providers and other members of the care delivery team to facilitate effective and efficient resident care.
- Demonstrate the ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar tasks and equipment operation within the scope of position and to accept change in a positive and professional manner.
- Provide informative written and oral correspondence to the Owner.
- Make informative, decisive decisions and inform the staff of all major changes and/or changes to policy.
- Assist in the financial and operational performance of the facility(ies).
- Apply problem solving and conflict resolution skills where needed.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the facility's annual strategic plan.
- Maintain awareness of governmental, societal, legal, environmental, and competitive factors affecting the home.
- Work to establish a group culture to enable Bee Hive Homes to function as a "whole."
Duties
The Assistant Administrator / Nurse is expected to perform other position-related duties that include, but are not limited to:
Resident Care
- Promptly identify problems and effectively utilize resources to address problems in a satisfactory manner.
- Demonstrate and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the resident's status and interpret relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care/service
- Provide documentation that reflects nursing interventions and full response to care including physical, psychosocial, safety and comfort needs of the resident.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Coordinate nursing services with other health care providers.
- Attend staff meetings, as required.
- Contribute to assessment of health status by ongoing observations of the resident and appropriate intervention made in a timely manner.
- Contribute knowledge of current health standards and adhere to those standards and
- Collect, report, and record objective and subjective data including all injections given to
- Ensure a complete medical record.
- Perform patient and staff education.
- Alert to special appointments and other matters, such as insurance, annual physicals requiring paper, physical rehabilitation, etc.
- Ensure that residents' needs are met including daily activities.
- Conduct resident council meetings as needed including the preparation of the agenda and maintenance of minutes.
- Facilitate staff, resident, and family communication to resolve conflict, create a positive home environment, and to continually promote innovative resident care. Evaluate potential residents and admit and discharge residents.
Personnel - This individual will Assist the Administrator with the following:
- Develop staff positions and decide when positions need to be filled.
- Assist in the development of job descriptions and performance appraisal systems.
- Complete annual and probationary performance appraisals for direct report resident
- Recruit, select, hire, evaluate, and terminate resident personnel.
- Train and supervise resident personnel ensuring each employee is trained and knowledgeable with respect to blood-borne pathogens, hazard communication, and infection control.
- Approve and implement protective infection control techniques for personnel with communicable disease, infectious wounds, or other transmittable conditions.
- Train and supervise resident personnel ensuring each employee is trained and knowledgeable with respect to risk management; death, dying and the aging process; fire safety; disaster preparedness; residents' rights; grievance procedures; and medication administration.
- Schedule staff to ensure safety and proper care of residents.
- Enforce personnel policies and ensure consistency in decisions made.
- Plan and direct monthly employee meetings.
- Assure that each employee maintains personal cleanliness and hygiene.
- Ensure each new staff member receives a full, eight-hour orientation upon hire.
- Serve as the liaison for payroll and benefit questions.
- Insure valid licensure of staff in positions where licensure is required. Complete employee exit interviews.
Regulatory and Legal
- Administer the facility's policies and procedures and recommend changes as necessary.
- Bring to the attention of Bee Hive Homes any deficiencies that may arise and correct as
- Ensure compliance to policies relating to blood-borne pathogens, hazard communication, and infection control.
- Ensure compliance with respect to risk management; death, the dying and the aging process; fire safety; disaster preparedness; residents' rights; grievance procedures; and medication administration.
- Assist during a state survey or other in-house inspection of records.
- Relay new information and regulatory changes from State officials to the staff and Bee Hive Homes .
Additional duties related to Assisting the Administrator include:
Financial Management
- As assigned, review monthly financial statements with the Board, explaining budget variances and highlighting both positive and negative trends. ● Take corrective action when budget concerns exist.
Marketing and Public Relations
- Act as liaison to community organizations and businesses including nursing homes, hospitals, senior centers, and retirement homes.
- Promote a positive image to residents and the community.
- Conduct marketing activities on a weekly basis to optimize occupancy within each
Facility Management
- Ensure optimal maintenance of the building, grounds, and equipment to include building engineering and housekeeping.
- Monitor and maintain household supply inventory.
Other
- Assist the Team Leader and/or Assistant House Manager as needed.
- Develop professional skills and education through other higher educational and/or continuing education opportunities.
- Maintain Continuing Education requirements in accordance with state and federal

Essential Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current license issued by the Montana State Board of Nursing.
- CPR certified and first aid certification.
- Has sufficient physical, emotional, and mental capacity to carry out the responsibilities of the position as verified by a statement from a licensed physician or nurse practitioner upon assuming responsibilities.
Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing theory, standards and professional practice.
- Skill in collecting data by interview, observation, auscultation, and palpation.
- Delivery of appropriate care according to nursing standards.
- Knowledge of communication techniques.
- Skill in organizing and reporting data that is accurate, complete, and accessible to other health care team members.
- Understanding of the need for and evidence of consistent respect for patient
- Knowledge of safety principles.
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of nursing experience.
- Well-rounded with developed outside interests.
Position Environment
This position frequently exposes the Assistant Amdinistrator / Nurse to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common when providing care. This position requires a full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. The Assistant
Administrator / Nurse facilitates and participates in on-site meetings held by Bee Hive Homes. This position is an exempt position under the FSLA and does require overtime in order to accomplish those duties outlined and to complete projects. Occasional stress related to multiple responsibilities.
