Job Description

Pride Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team in Shelby Township, MI. This is a 13- week contract with potential for extension opportunity and a great way to start working with a top-tier healthcare organization!

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial-response screening following protocols approved by supervising provider.
  • Escort patient to room and prepares patient for examination, procedure, and treatment.
  • Obtain vital signs and record in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Obtain and record patient history employing critical thinking skills.
  • Prepare for, set up and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments per protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare, administer, and document oral, parenteral medications, and immunizations as ordered by the supervising provider, documenting administration following the six rights in the EHR while maintaining accurate medication & immunization records.
  • Document care provided during patient visit in EHR.
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies.
  • Enter medication, radiology, and lab orders in the electronic health record for provider sign off.
  • Collect and process specimens.
  • Perform CLIA-waived tests.
  • Perform electrocardiography, respiratory and other testing based on department needs.
  • Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients and medical staff in the event of problems or complaints.
  • Schedule outpatient procedures.
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorizations.
  • Enters referrals for provider sign off.
  • Participate in departmental/divisional Quality Assessment and Quality Improvement Programs.
  • Practice Standard Precautions, including hand washing and disposal of biohazardous materials.
  • Apply principles of aseptic and sterile technique.
  • Clean instruments and equipment per policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards regarding practice, environment, and documentation.
  • Identify community resources for health maintenance and disease prevention to meet individual patient needs.


Education/Required Skills:

  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • BLS certification
  • Experience with EPIC EMR, and candidates must meet at least one of the requirements below;
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum) OR
  • Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years OR
  • Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical medical assisting OR
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR
  • Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years OR
  • Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.


Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care preferred.
  • Ability to problem-solve preferred.
  • Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred.


Additional Information:

  • Location: Shelby Township, MI
  • Schedule: Monday 8:00 am-7:20 pm, Tuesday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Wednesday 7:00 am-5:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm
  • Pay Rate: $16.00 - $19/Hour (Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.)
